Étymologie : ***** * Rivet & Smith, p. 448 : RIGODUNUM SOURCE - Ptolemy II, 3 , 10 : Rigodounon ( = RIGODUNUM), a polis of the Brigantes DERIVATION. For the first element, see RERIGONIUM; for the second, see BRANODUNUM. The sense is 'king-fort', 'royal fort', similar in formation to Kingston, Konigsburg, etc. Compounds of this kind involving rigo- are listed by Holder II.1187, Ellis Evans GPN 243-49; they are numerous on the Continent.
